About Us

iConnect is an initiative of the International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD) and serves as a jumping off point for information on the application of knowledge and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in sustainable development. iConnect draws content from experiences from IICD and its partners, links resources and expertise and encourages collaboration.

The core of the re-newed iConnect will be a series of locally written, qualitative articles on the impact and the use of ICTs for development. The articles will have a strong focus on fact finding; objective information on ICT for Development (ICT4D) practices from a southern perspective - Southern content written by Southern people. Dissemination will take place via three regional organisations (in Africa, Asia and Latin America) with a development and knowledge sharing objective.

Next to the iConnect website an eBulletin will be produced monthly, containing the locally produced articles, highlights, and news from partners and other organisations working in the field of ICT4D. On top of that, in the future the website will feature analyses based on the collected iConnect articles, experiences from IICD, research and monitoring and evaluation.

For IICD, iConnect forms part of an integrated Knowledge Sharing approach, it is a way to share experiences, lessons learned and ideas, and interact with communities and people with an interest in development and the applications of ICTs and knowledge within it. These experiences can lead to a better understanding of the actual benefits of ICT for Development (ICT4D).

iConnect is in part funded by the Building Communication Opportunities (BCO) initiative.

Please have a look at the different sections of iConnect and give us your opinion. If you have any materials or information related to ICT4D that can be of added value to iConnect, please contact editor@iconnect-online.org.
